Your First Lesson is Absolutely FREE!

I know how important it is to feel comfortable with your music teacher, which is why I offer a free trial lesson/consultation for all new students. This no-commitment session lets us get to know each other, discuss your goals, and ensure we're both comfortable about starting lessons together. It’s a great opportunity to set expectations and see if we’re the right fit before beginning regular lessons.

The trial lesson typically lasts about 30 minutes, but I’m more than happy to chat longer and answer any additional questions.

Empowering Students to Play, Improvise, and Explore a World of Music

Many students give up on lessons because the teaching method is rigid, uninspiring, and strictly “by the book.” I believe in first focusing on playing, improvising, and training the musical ear, much like how we learn to speak before we read or write. We typically use the Piano Adventures series by Faber and Faber for repertoire, sight-reading, and written theory. These books provide an organized framework for growth through consistent practice.

My students and I explore a wide variety of music to discover the styles that resonate with them best. I also teach chord charts, lead sheets, and improvisation skills to set students on the path to creating their own music.

Do I need a piano?

Yes! It's crucial that you have a piano or keyboard to practice on once you start lessons! Beginning students can get by with even a small keyboard initially, but for best results one with weighted keys should be used. An 88-note weighted keyboard is required once the music gets more complicated to accommodate the greater range of the pieces and exercises students will be learning.

I am delighted to offer private piano lessons in the Hazel Green area, welcoming students of all ages. Please feel free to reach out to me for information on availability. Together, we can build your child's confidence, creativity, and love for music through fun and engaging piano lessons!

Teaching Philosophy

Not just what to teach...

But how to teach it!

"My teaching philosophy centers around the individual needs and goals of each student. I believe that music is one of God's greatest gifts to humanity, and learning it should be an enjoyable and fulfilling experience. By creating a supportive and encouraging environment, I help students explore their musical potential. Tailoring lessons to fit each student's unique learning style, I aim to make the learning process both effective and joyful, fostering a deep appreciation for this wonderful gift."
