Playing the Piano

Private Piano Lessons

With over 13 years of experience, I offer piano lessons for beginners and intermediate students in the Hazel Green area.

Whether you’re looking for lessons for your child or starting yourself, the focus is the same: clear guidance, steady progress, and building real ability at the piano.

Lessons are tailored to each student, with an emphasis on strong fundamentals, understanding how music works, and learning to play with confidence. We also work with music that keeps students engaged so progress doesn’t stall.

Music is a beautiful gift and I strive to create a professional, encouraging environment where students can grow in both skill and discipline over time.

How Lessons Work

I offer in-person piano lessons at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Hazel Green.

Each lesson is hands-on. I guide you step by step so you understand what you’re doing and can actually apply it.

Lesson Options

  • 30-minute lessons — $25
Best for beginners and younger students building consistency

  • 60-minute lessons — $45
Ideal for faster progress, deeper understanding, and older students

Lessons are held weekly for steady progress.

Most students who stick long-term move to 60-minute lessons.

What You Can Expect

  • Direct, step-by-step guidance

  • Help between lessons if you get stuck

  • A clear path forward each week

You’re not left guessing what to do next.

A Practical Approach

Many students give up because lessons feel rigid, uninspiring, and strictly “by the book.”

I take a different approach.

We don’t start with workbooks and memorization. We start by getting comfortable on the piano, learning the fundamentals, and exploring through improvisation.

Then we build structure and technique on top of that.

What You’ll Learn

  • How to play songs you enjoy

  • How to recognize patterns and chords

  • How to play by ear and improvise

  • How to read music with understanding

Lessons are adjusted based on your level and goals so you keep moving forward each week.

Do I need a piano?

Yes, you’ll need a piano or keyboard to practice on between lessons.

An 88-key weighted keyboard is recommended as students progress to handle the full range of music and develop proper technique.

Beginners can start with 61 or 76 keys, but will eventually need to upgrade.

Teaching Philosophy

Not just what to teach...

But how to teach it!

"I teach based on the individual goals and level of each student

We focus on building real understanding, not just completing material, so students can continue improving with clarity and confidence.

Music is a beautiful gift, and I aim to teach in a way that reflects that."
